For all Russian fans of the German car industry, I have great news. A few days ago, the production of a new car began in Germany, which will enter the Russian market at the end of 2022.

From my article today, you will find out what kind of car it is, its technical characteristics, the timing of the sale, as well as the estimated cost in Russia. Go!

Production of a new car for Russia has started in Germany

At the central Opel plant in the city of Rüsselsheim (Germany), a few days ago, the production of new generation Opel Astra L cars was launched. The sixth generation of the world-famous hatchback has already entered the conveyor. The new Astra will be delivered to Russia from the plant in Rüsselsheim.

At one time, this model was very popular in the Russian market. For example, in 2014, the Opel Astra car was sold throughout our country with a circulation of 42,040 units. Opel has high hopes for the new sixth-generation hatchback in Russia. The Germans plan to sell 1,500 new cars to the Russians in the first year. Let's see what kind of car Opel Astra L is.

In 2017, the French automotive alliance Stellantis bought Opel from the American corporation General Motors. Therefore, when changing the generation, the Opel Astra hatchback moved from the American D2XX modular platform to the French EMP2 modular platform. Now the closest relative of the new Astra is the latest generation Peugeot 308 hatchback.

The dimensions of the hatchback have changed minimally. The length of the new Opel Astra L is 4374 mm, width - 1860 mm, height - 1470 mm, wheelbase - 2675 mm, ground clearance - 150 mm. The suspension also remains the same. Front - McPherson, rear - semi-dependent beam. Front and rear disc brakes.

But the trunk of the new generation Opel Astra hatchback has grown by more than 50 liters. Now its volume in the normal state is 422 liters (against 370 liters). With the rear sofa folded down, the luggage compartment increases to 1323 liters (against 1210 liters).

For the European market Opel Astra L is equipped with petrol, diesel and hybrid engines. But the new hatchback will arrive in Russia only with a gasoline power plant. We are talking about a 1.2-liter PureTech three-cylinder turbocharged gasoline engine with a capacity of 130 horsepower and a torque of 230 Newton meters.

The average fuel consumption of the 1.2 PureTech turbocharged engine in the combined cycle is 5.8 liters of AI-95 gasoline per hundred kilometers. The maximum speed of the Opel Astra L with a 1.2-liter turbo engine is 210 km / h, acceleration from zero to hundreds takes 9.7 seconds.

In principle, the 1.2 PureTech engine is aggregated with a six-speed manual or eight-speed automatic transmission. But with a probability of 99%, a car will be brought to Russia only with automatic transmission. After all, a hatchback will cost us decent money, so the Germans are unlikely to bring a car to us on a "handle". Well, the two most important questions remain - when will sales begin and how much will the Opel Astra L cost in Russia?

Russian Opel dealers will begin receiving new Astra L cars in the fourth quarter of 2022. The Russians will be able to purchase a hatchback either at the very end of this year or at the very beginning of next year.

Russian prices for Opel Astra L have not yet been announced. But you can safely take another German hatchback, which is sold in Russia and delivered to us from Germany, as a reference point. This is the Volkswagen Golf VIII. At the moment, it costs us from 2,695,000 rubles. So Opel Astra L will most likely be cheaper by 150,000 - 200,000 rubles. That is, the price will start from about 2,500,000 rubles.
